The Bleating of the Sheep

“What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears?”
1 Samuel 15:14

Samuel asked this of King Saul after Saul claimed that he had performed what God had required, even though he hadn’t.

So Samuel asks, Yeah? So why are the sheep alive?

“What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears?”
— 1 Samuel 15:14

Saul said he obeyed.
He used the right language.
He kept the religious posture.
He blamed the people.
He claimed good intentions.

And Samuel didn’t debate theology.
He didn’t ask about Saul’s heart.
He didn’t accept excuses.

He listened.

If obedience happened, Samuel says, why do I still hear the evidence of disobedience?

You say you did what God required?

Then why are the sheep still alive?

Jesus uses the same test.

You say you follow Him?

Then why are the poor still hungry?
Why are the prisoners still bound?
Why are the sick untreated?
Why are the exploited still expendable?
Why are the vulnerable still crushed
while the worship band never misses a note?
Why do you value your material wealth above obeying his command to let it go?

You say revival is happening?

Then why does injustice still have a microphone?
Why does violence still get applause?
Why do predators still get platforms
and victims get told to forgive quietly?

You say the church is faithful?

Then why does the world still bleed
right outside your doors?

Because God has never been impressed by claims.
He listens for outcomes.

He doesn’t ask, “Did you mean well?”
He asks, “Why is the evidence still alive?”

If the sheep are still bleating,
obedience didn’t happen.

If the poor are still starving,
discipleship didn’t happen.

If injustice still speaks freely,
the Kingdom is not being enacted—
it’s being performed.

God does not measure faith by volume, attendance, or correct language.

He measures it by what no longer survives once obedience enters the room.

So don’t tell Him you followed orders.

Explain the sound.

Because if injustice still has a voice,
someone disobeyed.

And Heaven is listening.

“How can we take it easy with billions of souls to tell?
How can we take it easy as the world is engulfed in Hell?
How can we take it easy with the church asleep in its ease?
How can we take it easy, would someone tell me, please?”
